‘PUGIN-LAND’ LECTURES AND TOURS
by Michael Fisher, M.A., F.S.A.
Michael Fisher is a widely-recognised authority on the art and architecture of the English Gothic Revival, particularly the life and work of A.W.N. Pugin, the dominant figure in 19th-century architecture and design, whose work figures so prominently in the Midlands. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books, including Gothic For Ever (Spire Books 2012) written to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Pugin’s birth.
As an experienced, popular and entertaining lecturer, he has addressed meetings organised by the Art Fund, the National Trust Association, the Victorian Society, and to DFAS groups, and has conducted one- and two-day tours of key Gothic Revival buildings in Staffordshire, including Alton Towers, once the largest privately-owned house in Europe, where he is actively involved in current conservation and restoration programmes.
Michael Fisher’s current programme of talks includes:
GUIDED TOURS – tailor-made to suit individual requirements, e.g. ‘Pugin-land’ (can include St Giles’s Church Cheadle and the Pugin Heritage Centre; St. John’s Church, Alton, Alton Towers).
