REALISED DESIGNS
UNREALISED DESIGNS
- 1857-59: Durham, DH7 9RH, Co. Durham - St Aloysius' Chapel: part of St Aloysius' Schools, the Junior Seminary of Ushaw College to which it is attached by a cloister. The commission was won by EW Pugin in an invited competition with JA & CF Hansom. Chapel not completed until 1884; the tower now lacks the spire shown in Fig.39a.
- 1865-68: Nr. Mayfield, E. Sussex - Holy Trinity Orphanage Chapel: built through the munificence of the Dowager Duchess of Leeds - see Mayfield, Holy Trinity Orphanage. The chapel (not completed until 1875) was dedicated to the Holy Trinity & St Francis Xavier. The realised design differs somewhat from that originally projected in that the nave and chancel are not distinguished externally, the bell-cote that was originally intended to mark the nave/chancel junction surmounting the W. gable instead. EW Pugin's High Altar & reredos were replaced by ones in Belgian oak in 1904. The chapel has now been converted into domestic accommodation.
- 1866-67: Ratcliffe-on-the-Wreake, Leics. - Ratcliffe College Chapel, (IC, Rosminians): dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, and is an addition (planned in 1865) to pre-existing college buildings by AWN Pugin, dating from 1843 - see also Ratcliffe College. The design of the bell-cote has certain similarities with that of SS Henry and Elizabeth, Sheerness. The chapel was deconsecrated c.1962, and converted for use as a dormitory and teaching space.

- 1864: Rome, Italy - Collegiate Church of St. Thomas at the English College: the existing church is by Count V Vespignani (C Richardson, True Principles, vol ii (ii), 20-23, 2001).
